Edinburgh East discussion

Mark Jo: yes, I think the emphasis at first was just on getting lots of issues added, but as I understand it some moderators are going to cut these down to 10 or so before they get sent to candidates - it might be worth emailing developers@democracyclub.org.uk to ask about that... Apr 12
Jo Looking at the copious list of issues. Quite a few are facets of a bigger issue (e.g. the progress of the trams, maintenance of roads, encouragement of non-car transport each have 4 or 5 small issues). Is there an editing effort on the final list, who's running that? How to help? Apr 10
Tom Regarding the election specifically we need a united voice from across the political spectrum making it clear exactly what the BNP are, how they are not the solution to any of the genuine difficulties caused by past mis-government and a greater awareness of their woeful record where they have been elected as councillors south of the border. They are a thinly-veiled effort to give a 'respectable' voice to the promotion of hate crimes. Where they have been elected there has been a simultaneous rise in violence spurred by their islamophobia, racism and homophobia. In addition, we and those who represent us need to maintain the unqualified rejection of the Scottish Defence League. They do not represent Scots or people living in Scotland. While the alternative march on 20th February was heartening and the fact that the proposed SDL march was not allowed, this is not the end of the story and we need to maintain vigilance over those attempting to promote hatred from disenchantment and recruit among football supporters in a revival of the tactics of the National Front. Local issues in Edinburgh East

We're collecting local issues in Edinburgh East. Some of these have been turned into questions to put to the candidates standing at the 2010 general election in the form of a questionnaire.

Issues are no longer being turned into questions, but we still want them! A good local issue will be about a problem of local relevance, possibly suggesting how something should have been/be done.

Local questions for candidate questionnaire

These are the questions that have been made out of the local issues Demoracy Club volunteers have posted. They'll make up the 'local' section of a questionnaire that TheyWorkForYou is developing in conjunction with Demoracy Club. Below the question is the local issue it's derived from.

Do you agree that ... ?

How well are your candidates doing at responding to our survey?

We've sent questionnaires to as many candidates as we can in Edinburgh East, but they've not all managed to reply.

Can you help encourage the ones who've not replied yet?

We'll be putting the results of the questionnaire online as soon as we have a few more replies. In the mean time, you can see a version of what we're sending to your candidates here.
