Local issues in Hackney South and Shoreditch
We're collecting local issues in Hackney South and Shoreditch. Some of these have been turned into questions to put to the candidates standing at the 2010 general election in the form of a questionnaire.
Issues are no longer being turned into questions, but we still want them! A good local issue will be about a problem of local relevance, possibly suggesting how something should have been/be done.
- More priority for buses over cars in Hackney
- 51-storey Bishops Place should be built in Shoreditch (source)
- Planning permission is given too freely by hackney council without regard for the history of the site. e.g. Foundry in Shoreditch being knocked down to clear space for Luxury Hotel Chain (source)
- More residential streets should be bollarded-off at one end, to stop them being rat runs for cars and give priority to bicycles.
- Police should prioritise catching bicycle thieves (source)
- Traffic wardens should direct traffic at the exit of Mare Street Narroway during peak period, to ensure buses are not held up and end up backed up all the way down Lower Clapton High Street.
- Plain-clothed police on bicycles should issue PCNs to aggressive drivers.
- Bus drivers should be trained to assess whether a bus is full to capacity before refusing to let people board. Too often, buses with spare capacity refuse to let people on.
Local questions for candidate questionnaire
These are the questions that have been made out of the local issues Demoracy Club volunteers have posted. They'll make up the 'local' section of a questionnaire that TheyWorkForYou is developing in conjunction with Demoracy Club. Below the question is the local issue it's derived from.
