Local issues in Sheffield, Brightside and Hillsborough
We're collecting local issues in Sheffield, Brightside and Hillsborough. Some of these have been turned into questions to put to the candidates standing at the 2010 general election in the form of a questionnaire.
Issues are no longer being turned into questions, but we still want them! A good local issue will be about a problem of local relevance, possibly suggesting how something should have been/be done.
- parks and open-spaces, such as Hillsborough park,m need to be well-lit at night, and the lighting maintained properly to reduce anti-social behaviour
- the Supertram infrastructure ought to be expanded, rather than spending money on the new and inferior BRT system (source)
- local enterprise ought to be encouraged through subsidised business rates
- Future High Speed Rail expansion must include Sheffield, to provide economic benefits to the whole of South Yorkshire, at a greater rate of return than the Manchester route (source)
- Old Railway Staions and lines ought to be reopened, especially in the Don Valley (Wadsley Bridge, Attercliffe and Brightside Stations for example) as a more efficient method of mass transit (source)
- high speed rail should come to Sheffield, not go to Leeds via Manchester.
Local questions for candidate questionnaire
These are the questions that have been made out of the local issues Demoracy Club volunteers have posted. They'll make up the 'local' section of a questionnaire that TheyWorkForYou is developing in conjunction with Demoracy Club. Below the question is the local issue it's derived from.
